SEMAGLUTIDE – What is it and how does it work?
Semaglutide is a patented molecule created by Novo Nodisk. It is also the active ingredient in both the pharmaceutically branded forms of Ozempic and Wgovy. Semaglutide has shown to be quite effective in the population using it for weight loss. At The Natural Path, we use Semaglutide as a TOOL to help establish a lifestyle diet that can end up being the gift that keeps on giving. Changing your relationship with food is a big undertaking and with Semaglutide decreaseing appetite the change happens with a lot more ease.
While there is no guarantee as to how the journey will go, we do find that most of our patients lose between 1-2 lbs per week or 4-8 pbs per month on the program.
SEMAGLUTIDE for Diabetes Leads to Semaglutide for Weight Loss
Semaglutide was originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, but patients that were taking it to control their blood sugar levels were experiencing a reduced appetite as a side effect of Semaglutide – which for many, resulted in weight loss. Due to this correlation, Novo Nordisk (the pharmaceutical company behind Wegovy/Ozempic) decided to put Semaglutide through an exceptional weight loss study that lasted for 68 weeks or 17 months. Not long after the completion of the study, Semaglutide was approved as a weight-loss treatment by the FDA in June 2021 under the brand name Wegovy.
Who Qualifies for Semaglutide
Semaglutide is only prescribed as a weight-loss treatment to patients who need to reduce their BMI and have struggled to achieve any significant weight loss with diet and exercise alone. The FDA approves Wegovy only for weight loss if you have a BMI of 27+ with a co-morbid condition or a BMI over 30. Any other use is considered “off-label.”
Pairing Semaglutide with a Healthy Diet
This really is our #1 goal at The Natural Path. We want to use this medication as a tool to help create a lifestyle diet. If this happens, then you will maintain your losses with ease, keep inflammation down and most likely feel a whole lot better. It is important to nourish your body on a cellular level and choose foods that are nutrient dense and fit your current lifestyle.
