The Obesity Epidemic and the HCG Diet
Today, you do not need to be a medical professional to notice the obesity epidemic that we are facing ... and it’s a problem. This problem is a complex dance between our genetics, our endocrine system, our hormones and human behaviors. The problem is not simply a premise built upon calories ingested and calories expended.
In my clinical experience, I have seen a direct relationship between the HCG Diet and weight loss. The strength of this relationship came to me as quite a surprise in my first few months of facilitating the program in my practice. The HCG Diet has been a safe, effective and maintainable form of weight loss for my patients.
THE RESEARCH AND GROUNDWORK FOR THE HCG DIET
The research and groundwork for the HCG Diet began in the 1950’s with a British Physician, Dr A.T. Simeon. Dr. Simeon had devoted much of his medical practice to learning about obesity. At one point, he conducted a research trial on young boys with Froehlich’s Disease. This condition is marked by ravenous hunger, obesity with a fewmale pattern of adipose deposits in the hips, buttocks and thighs. Due to the anterior pituitary nature of this disease, these boys also had gynecomastia and
underdeveloped testicles. In the research study, the treatment consisted of biweekly therapeutic injections of HCG. HCG was known to induce precocious puberty in laboratory models. These patient’s despite having no caloric restriction, noted a reduction in appetite, and as an unanticipated finding, the patients lost significant amounts of weight as well as decrease in hip circumference.
These findings, led Dr. Simeons to see a correlation between HCG and weight loss. In 1954, he conducted his own trials which were published in Lancet, in 1954(1). Several clinical trials have attempted to follow in his footsteps, but only one double blind placebo controlled study has achieved the dramatic results Simeon and his many patients described.
In Dr. Simeons study using HCG for weight loss, he randomly assigned the group to receive 125 iu of HCG or placebo via subcutaneous injection 6 days/week for 6 weeks. These patients were also placed on a strict diet. An average weight loss of 18 lbs was reported by these patients. Each day, the research group reported their degree of hunger. The majority of patients reported “no feelings of hunger”.(1) They were also asked to report on their general state of well-being and again the majority reported feeling “good” to “excellent”.(2)
SEEING THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE HCG DIET AND WEIGHT LOSS
In my own practice, the strong research correlations ignited my intellectual curiosity and I began learning as much as I could from as many people as I could over the past 10 years. There have been many studies over the years but in meta-analysis it was determined these studies were largely flawed. The meta-analysis was conducted to determine it HCG was a valuable adjunct in weight loss, fat redistribution and hunger.
In my experience the HCG Diet protocol has been a pathway for success for so many of my patients in their journey of weight loss and optimal health. Most all of my patients see significant results in weight loss! They begin to enjoy a clean, healthy diet and become motivated to add exercise into their daily life. Helping patients to combat obesity and turn their bodies, their confidence and their lives around has been a celebration for me!
