Natural Tips to help Guide you through Flu Season

This years flu season has really affected a lot of our patients.   Even those coming to us exclusively for the HCG Diet have come in to be treated for this years flu virus. The most common symptoms of onset seem to be chills, fever, body aches, sore skin and fatigue which then quickly moves into a cough and sore throat. These flu season symptoms can vary from person to person.  The worst flu season symptom picture seems to be those listed above along with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.   In this case, you must ensure that dehydration does not become an issue.

Staving Away from the Flu this Flu Season

If you have not gotten the flu this flu season, there are quite a few things that you can do to keep it at bay.  I have been sharing these tips in my office with all of my HCG Diet patients as well as Naturopathic Primary carepatients. The first one is to wash your hands.  This simple task done frequently is one of the best things you can do to keep the flu from settling into your body this flu season. Reishi mushrooms taken twice daily is a wonderful tonic for the immune system.   I recommend HOST DEFENSE mushrooms products.  Vitamin C 1000mg 2x/day is also a great flu season immune fighter.  Also, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.

Treating the Flu this Flu Season

If the flu has hit you or your family this flu season there are a few things you can do to help shorten the duration.   If you catch it early, you may try the homeopathic remedy oscillococcinum.  I have found this to be helpful in the very early onset. As the flu sets in, I highly recommend 40,000 IU of Vitamin D daily for 3 days followed by 5000 IU for another few days (I always recommend a daily maintenance dose of 1000 IU daily unless labs show a decrease and then we prescribe from there). Vitamin C in the dose of 3000 mg 3x/day is very important.  Lemon water, ginger tea, hot epsom salt baths, rest and hydration are key.   Listen to your body. If you are not hungry while you have the flu then keep your food intake to a minimum.If you are on the HCG Diet this flu season and contract the flu it is perfectly fine to continue your program as directed.Happy, Healthy Flu Season to all.
